The most beautiful time to get married in Maui is either early in the morning around 8:00 or 9:00 a.m. or around sunset time. Depending on your wedding day the sun sets between 5:44 p.m. in the winter and 7:12 p.m. in the summer. It is pleasantly cool in the morning, relatively calm with trade winds picking up in the early afternoon. The morning sky is mostly without clouds, making it the perfect time for Maui wedding pictures. You can get married any given time of the day but please consider that temperatures between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. are around 85 degrees and there won't be any shade.
We are mainly working with non-denominational Christian Hawaiian ministers. If you wish to be married by a priest of a certain denomination please let us know and we will try to reserve a minister of your faith for you. You can chose from a variety of Maui wedding ceremonies and are welcome to write your own wedding vows. Catholic Ceremonies in Maui have to be planned at least 6 months in advance and you can only get married inside of a Catholic Church. Catholic faith does not allow for any ceremonies to be performed on beaches or in gardens.
A traditional Maui Wedding celebration begins with a Hawaiian chanter and/or conch shell blower starting the procession, followed by the Bride while the Groom awaits her arrival in a circle of flowers. Once the ceremony begins, a Hawaiian or classical musician plays the first song. Your Hawaiian minister greets you with the "Oli Aloha", an ancient Hawaiian marriage chant: "There was a seeking of the lost, now it is found. A mate is found, one to share the chills of winter. Love has made a plea that you two now become one, here in Hawaii, is a perch, a perch in heaven. You are to be wedded and the prayer has gone its way."
Following ancient tradition, you will then exchange Hawaii wedding leis to signify your open hearts and love for each another. The beautiful lei with all of it's hand-picked flowers, are twined and carefully bonded together with love: a reflection of your love and Aloha. As you exchange these "Leis" you will now begin to weave your own "Lei of Life."
After that you will then exchange your wedding rings. You may enrich your Maui wedding ceremony by adding your own special vows, words, readings or poems.
Hawaiian flowers are a very important part of every Maui wedding ceremony. In ancient times, Hawaiian Brides put a Haku-lei, a wreath of flowers around their head while the Groom wore a green fern head lei. Both had haku-style leis around thei ankles and wrists. A cascading or hand held bouquet complements this occasion. Tropical Hawaii flowers pinned to a palm tree or a circle of flowers in the sand add to the Hawaii feel. You have complete freedom in choosing your Hawaii flowers, Hawaii settings and colors.
