When the sun's first rays pierce through the darkness, speeding over the magnificent crater of Haleakala, the 2 hour drive up to the summit is forgotten. The crater is 3,000 feet deep, 7.5 miles long and 2.5 miles wide and is the largest dormant crater in the world. Haleakala is an active but currently not erupting volcano. The last activity was in 1790.

As the sun continues its slow climb into the sky you will feel as if you are standing on top of the world. All of Maui is at your feet. Across the ocean, to the West are the islands of Lana’i Moloka’i and Kahoolawe. To the East Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa, the two majestic volcanoes of the Big Island of Hawaii.
